Super Tuesday primary: See Muscogee and Russell County precincts, ballots

When Columbus polls open at 7 a.m. today for Georgia’s presidential preference primary, 6,513 Muscogee residents already will have voted.

That’s how many voted early in the weeks leading up to today’s Super Tuesday showdown, when states across the South hold their presidential primary elections.

Voting precincts in Muscogee County will close at 7 p.m. Anyone still in line at that time will be allowed to vote, but no one arriving late will be allowed to join the end of the line.

Muscogee residents should remember that three voting precincts will move to new sites today:

Those who previously voted at Northside Baptist Church and Fox Elementary now will vote in the student center at Columbus Tech, 928 Manchester Expressway.

Those who once voted at Blackmon Road Middle School now will vote at the Salvation Army Church, 5201 Warm Springs Road.

The elections board last moved a polling place in November 2014, moving residents who once voted at the old Muscogee Elementary School, 3900 Baker Plaza Drive, to the National Infantry Museum off South Lumpkin Road at 1775 Legacy Way.

Columbus voters will choose only party nominees for president today. Across the Chattahoochee River in Russell County, residents will also decide races for district court judge, district attorney and other local contests.

In either state, voters must choose a Republican or Democratic ballot.

In Russell County, they must pick a Democratic Party ballot to vote in the judges’ races pitting Zack Collins against incumbent Buster Landreau and April Logan Russell against incumbent Walter Gray III, and the district attorney’s race in which former prosecutor Jamie Graham is challenging incumbent Kenneth Davis.

Also on the Democratic ballot are two county commission contests, with Cattie Epps, Jeff Faircloth and Charles Hollowell competing for District 5, and Larry Screws and J.S. Upshaw running in District 7.

Russell County’s Republican Party ballot has the race for the Third Congressional District where former Phenix City School Superintendent Larry DiChiara is challenging U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, plus a contest for state Supreme Court justice, Public Service Commission president, and the U.S. Senate seat held by Richard Shelby, who faces four challengers.

Russell County voting precincts are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time.
