Teen girl, 16, shot in back at Peachtree Mall
Columbus police are investigating a shooting at Peachtree Mall that sent a 16-year-old girl to the hospital late Friday, authorities said.
The girl was taken to Midtown Medical Center where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the back in an apparent dispute at 3131 Manchester Expressway. Another girl who was with the teen was struck in the face with the pistol.
Police Lt. Herman Miles said warrants have been issued for the 25-year-old boyfriend of the teen. He faces two counts of aggravated assault in the injuries to the two girls, one count of reckless conduct and discharging a firearm.
Miles said the boyfriend was in the car with the two teen girls about 8:30 p.m. when an argument erupted between the couple. The boyfriend stepped out of the car at the entrance of the mall, pulled a pistol and shot his girlfriend in the back before striking the other girl with the pistol.
Neither of the teens sustained life threatening injuries, police said. The wounded girlfriend was expected to be treated and released late Friday.
The shooting was the second report of gunfire at the shopping mall in more than a week. Police investigated an apparent gunshot fired into the floor. Police believe a gun discharged in the pocket of a shopper.
