Officials release more details in fatal February wreck on Highway 169
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency released more details today concerning the Feb. 25 wreck on Alabama 169 that killed 35-year-old Annick Therese Muto and injured two others.
Officials said Carol Sue Hart of Columbus was driving south on Highway 169 and exiting a curve with a slight down grade when she over corrected to the left while at the 11 mile marker in Russell County. She lost control of her 2004 Honda Civic, crossed the center lines and struck the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche headed north on that same highway, according to the report.
A Salem, Ala. woman witnessed the head-on collision that killed Muto, injured Hart and wounded the Opelika man who drove the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche. The motorists were transported to Columbus Midtown Medical Center for treatment, according to ALEA.
Columbus Regional spokeswoman Jessica Word said Hart is currently in satisfactory condition, but the other motorist, who is currently employed with the U.S. Army in Fort Benning, has since been released.
Authorities said Hart took a drug test following the 6:40 a.m. wreck but the Opelika driver did not. Officials are awaiting the results of the toxicology report.
