Here's who has qualified to run for office around Columbus
Several candidates, incumbents and challengers, have qualified for Columbus Council races on the May 24 ballot.
Incumbents Gary Allen (District 6), Evelyn Turner Pugh (District 4) and Glenn Davis (District 2) have paid their $420 qualifying fees, according to Elections and Registration records. At-large District 10 challenger Teddy Reese has also paid the fee, as has District 8 challenger Robert Walker Garrett.
None of the declared candidates for Muscogee County Sheriff, including the incumbent, has paid their fees to qualify for the May 24 primary election.
Marshal Greg Countryman and challenger Bernard Spicer both paid the $2,461 qualifying fee for that race as Democrats. Challenger Billy Weary has not yet paid.
Incumbent Municipal Court Clerk Vivian Creighton-Bishop paid her $2,797 fee, but declared challenger Sylvia Hudson hasn’t yet.
For school board seats, Post 1 incumbent Pat Hugley Green and challenger Al Stewart have paid their $360 fees, as has Post 3 incumbent Athavia Senior. For Post 5, which has no incumbent, challengers Robert Wadkins, Todd Robinson and Pete Taylor have paid. In Post 7, which also has no incumbent, challenger and former board member Norene Marvets qualified.
In other races, Superior Court Clerk Linda Pierce ($2,534), Solicitor Suzanne Goddard ($3,482), State Court Judge Ben Richardson ($4,632) have qualified with no current competition. Municipal Court Judge challenger Cynthia Maisano ($3,236) has qualified as a Democrat while incumbent Steven Smith has yet to qualify.
Qualifying, which began Monday morning, runs through Friday at noon.
