Smiths Station Fire & Rescue announce completion of sixth station

The Smiths Station Fire & Rescue announced Friday afternoon in a press release the completion of its sixth fire station.

Located at 50 Lee Road 315 near the intersection of Lee Road 315 and Lee Road 248 (Summerville Road), the building will house a front line fire engine and a brush truck, said Smith Station Assistant Chief Daniel Sexton.

According to the release, the 40-member volunteer fire department responds to an average of over 2,100 fire, EMS, rescue, hazmat, road hazard and citizen assist calls per year. Its coverage area of approximately 72 square miles includes 32,000 residents in Smiths Station and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Lee County.

“The addition of Station Six to the other five strategically located stations within our coverage area will enhance the department’s response capability,” Sexton said. “The location of the new station places more homes and businesses within the five-road mile radius of a fire station that many insurance providers require and may positively impact some homeowners’ insurance premiums.”

Those seeking more information or a station location verification letter concerning the sixth station are encouraged to call Smiths Station Fire & Rescue at 334-297-7151 or visit the website http://verify.smithsfire.org.
