Coroner identifies man hit, killed by train as Auburn University student

The man fatally struck by a westbound CSX train early Saturday near the North College Street railroad crossing was identified as an Auburn University student, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

Dakota Parker, a 19-year-old AU student from Decatur, Ala., was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. CST, almost an hour after authorities were called at 12:25 a.m. to a man lying between the tracks. His body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem exam to determine the cause of death, Harris said.

The Auburn Police, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the Lee County Coroner’s Office are currently investigating Parker’s death as an accident.
