Opelika man, 33, killed in motorcycle crash on Lee Road 41

A 33-year-old man died in single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Opelika crash on Lee Road 41, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Officials said Regis Novell Ashmore of Opelika was driving his 2002 Yamaha motorcycle when his bike left the roadway at a high rate of speed and struck an object on the side of the road on Lee Road 166 near Lee Road 41 in the Beauregard community around 7 p.m. Ashmore, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was thrown from his vehicle, according to the release.

As the only occupant on the bike, he was rushed to the Columbus Midtown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of multiple blunt force injuries at 7:57 PM CST, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
