Wendy’s operator investigating complaint against clerk in Eufaula store

The owners of a Eufaula, Ala., fast-food restaurant are currently investigating the claim of two Barbour County Sheriff’s deputies that employee made a derogatory remark aimed at law enforcement.

Sheriff Leroy Upshaw posted the following on his Facebook page two days ago: “Two of my Deputies went into Wendy's in Eufaula today to eat lunch. A cashier then stated that she ‘hated these f-----g cops in here’. Just thought the citizens that appreciate law enforcement, and local law enforcement, should know.”

The deputies, one of which confronted the worker, left the restaurant without ordering.

The restaurant is one of 43 in south Alabama and northwest Florida owned by Wendco Group, a Pensacola, Fla., franchisee, said Wendco Director of Management Services Ed Sheffield.

“We are investigating and taking the allegations seriously,” Sheffield said. “We are looking for anything to corroborate what the sheriff told us.”

The investigation is not complete and no personnel action has been taken against any employee, Sheffield said.

The Wendy’s in question has been in the same location on U.S. 431 South for more than 30 years.

“We were surprised to hear this because that store has the best customer service rating of all of our stores,” Sheffield said.
