Columbus Fire & EMS promote seven officials

Columbus Fire & EMS announced seven promotions within its department Monday morning during its promotion ceremony.

Steven Hord moved from lieutenant to captain. Roland Sandoval, Gordy Scarbrough and Quincy Miller went from sergeant to lieutenant. Robert Jackson, William Elrod and Bobby Schaaf were promoted from firefighter to sergeant.

“I can say in the 35 years I’ve been with this department, we’ve never had a more educated, dedicated staff,” Assistant Chief Robert Futrell said. “The guys here are a prime example of that.”

The men accepted their new rankings in front of crowded room filled with their family, friends and fellow employees. Each of them gave thanks to those who contributed to their success.

Hord, who has served with the department for 12 years, earned the highest rank presented during Monday’s ceremony. He showed appreciation for both his family and supervisors.

“Y’all led me when I needed leading, and you pushed me when I needed pushing,” Hord said to his superiors. “That’s put me to where I am now.”
