Police: Multiple wrecks in area of J.R. Allen Parkway slow traffic after rain

Traffic was slow in the area of J.R. Allen Parkway Tuesday morning after rain conditions led to multiple wrecks, Columbus Police Sgt. Fred Carnes said.

Carnes said most of the incidents occurred in the southbound lane of I-185 between Manchester Expressway and Macon Road as well as J.R. Allen Parkway between Bradley Park Drive and Second Avenue.

No serious injuries were reported, police said.

“There are multiple accidents,” said Carnes, before later adding that there were a limited number of tow trucks available. “I can’t even tell you how many, because they keep coming out.”

Carnes said drivers’ lack of caution despite the weather conditions caused motorists to hydroplane.

“It’s rush hour and everybody is still trying to go 65 and 70 (mph),” Carnes said.
