Coroner releases name of man fatally struck by car in Phenix City
Ronald Hutchinson of Phenix City was identified as the 68-year-old man who died after being struck by a vehicle April 26 on U.S. Highway 80, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. announced this morning.
Phenix City police said a Toyota Avalon was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 when Hutchinson stepped into traffic around 8:27 p.m. The driver maneuvered in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian but struck the man near Riverchase Drive, officials said.
Sumbry said the pedestrian was transported to Columbus Midtown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:04 p.m. His body will not undergo an autopsy, the coroner said.
Police said driver was not injured.
