Movie Madness

Amerigroup will sponsor Movie Madness, Friday at Carmike’s Ritz 13, 1683 Whittlesey Road. The movie “Ice Age” also includes a red carpet, give-aways, games and more. Families are invited. Clergy to Hold March

The Community of Concerned Clery will host “Walk Through the Land March,” 9 a.m. July 23 at Greater Mt. Zion Church, 201 S. Seale Rd. All churches in the community are invited to join in the march. For additional info, call 334-298-0982.

Tax Free Weekend

▪ Georgia’s Tax Free Weekend is July 30-31 and RetailMeNot has compiled the following info:

▪ Wide-ruled paper is the most requested supply by teachers.

▪ Clothing, computers and footwear are included in the tax-free weekend.

▪ Target will have up to 25 percent off back-to-college must-haves.

▪ Parents who are investing in top tech gadgets for their children: 26 percent will buy a tablet, 21 percent will purchase a laptop and 20 percent will buy a smartphone.

▪ Many classic school items are still on parent’s to-buy lists: 38 percent plan on purchasing textbooks and 28 percent expect to buy a scientific calendar.

▪ Staples will offer 25 percent off school supplies when you buy a backpack (with code 65639).

▪ Nearly one in five parents will buy clothing or supplies inspired by movies or TV: Star Wars-22 percent; Angry Birds, Finding Dory and Frozen each at 18 percent and Spongebob at 12 percent.

▪ Best Buy will have up to $50 off computers, HDTVs and more.

▪ Express will offer 15 percent in-store and online.

Bottom line: Do you homework before you shop. Make detailed lists and check for the discounts all stores are offering.

Free Astronomy Night at FDR State Park

Join the Coca-Cola Space Science Center staff for a star talk and night sky viewing, 9 p.m. Saturday. Bring a chair or blanket for sitting on the grassy field. Meet at the baseball field across from the Liberty Bell Pool on Hwy. 190. Call 229-838-6202 for more information.

DC Comics Event

A DC Comic-themed night will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble, 5555 Whittlesey Blvd. Be one of the first to get a free Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad Special Edition #1 Comic (while supplies last.) There will be trivia, giveaways, activities, cosplay and a special offer. This event is perfect for teens and adults and participants are encouraged to come in costume. Carla Milton, a certified fitness instructor located in Columbus, incorporates energetic hip-hop music with body changing movements on the cycle bike. Chamber Breakfast

The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Eye Opener Breakfast, 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28.
