Police find father who left with 4 kids, cancel lookout

Police have arrested a Columbus father who left with four children he was supposed to return to their mother.

Authorities announced Monday they have canceled the lookout for Jarvis E. Brown, 32, whom they thought might have traveled in a white Ford van to the area of Palm Beach County, Fla.

Police have charged him with four counts of interference with child custody. The children were three sons ages 5, 6 and 9 and a daughter, 7.

“He was in Florida,” said police Lt. Joyce Dent-Fitzpatrick. “The children are fine. The children have been returned to their mother.

In a news release Monday afternoon, police said Brown had returned to Columbus, where “someone recognized him and the kids from the news.”

Investigators said widespread news of Brown’s disappearance with four children “pretty much flushed him out because he did make mention of being on the news, even in Florida.”

Brown is to have a preliminary hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 9 a.m. Thursday.
