A 23-year-old man was shot Thursday night in the 600 block of Edmon Avenue, according to a news release from the Opelika Police Department.
The victim, who told authorities he didn’t know the shooter, was flown to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A second person, who sustained minor injuries during the 9:30 p.m. incident, didn’t require medical attention, according to police.
Opelika Police Capt. Shane Healey said it’s possible that the second individual was harmed when the bullet ricocheted.
“There are no further details at this time as the investigation is just beginning,” Healey said.
