A 29-year-old Columbus woman is suspended with pay at the Muscogee Youth Development Campus where she was accused of sexually assaulting an underage inmate while on duty.
Phoenicia Hill, who was employed as a juvenile corrections officer at the time of the incident, was taken into custody at 3 p.m. Wednesday by Muscogee County sheriff’s deputies off Old Cusseta Road. She was charged with one count each of violation of oath by a public officer and sexual assault against a person in custody. She was released on bond around 2 a.m. Thursday from the Muscogee County Jail.
In a release on Thursday, the Department of Juvenile Justice confirmed the arrest of Hill following an internal investigation at the Muscogee Youth Development Campus in Columbus. She was placed on suspension with pay immediately upon allegations of misconduct. Investigators received information that resulted in the two charges.
Hill’s status is in conflict with an arrest report that shows the corrections officer is unemployed.
The case is pending prosecution by the District Attorney’s Office of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit in Columbus. Officials said a Department of Justice investigation is still ongoing.
