Man accused in Phenix City beating arrested in Columbus

A man accused in the severe beating of a Phenix City man was captured in Columbus by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force on Wednesday, authorities said.

Carlton Reed Shaw is charged with attempted murder in the Sept. 8 beating of a 38-year-old man in the 1800 block of Timberland Drive. The victim was first treated at Midtown Medical Center, but was airlifted to the intensive care unit at Atlanta Medical Center where he was treated for skull and facial fractures and bleeding on the brain.

After police were called to a residence on Timberland Drive, Police Lt. Darrell “Skip” Lassiter said police found a man who had been beaten in the head and face with a piece of wood fashioned like a bat.

Police said the victim was attacked while he was asleep on a couch. The suspect believed that the victim had an inappropriate relationship with his girlfriend.
