Police investigate shooting death of man, 23, in Opelika

Opelika , Ala., police are investigating the shooting death of a man in the 600 block of Edmon Avenue today.

Jaquavious Strickland, 23, of Opelika, was pronounced dead of multiple gunshots at 12:34 p.m. CST, Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said. Strickland’s body will be transported to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery, Ala., for an autopsy.

Police Capt. Shane Healey of the Opelika Police Department said they received a call at 12:19 p.m. CST about a gunshot victim. Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim with gunshot wounds and no signs of life.

No other details will be released in the homicide investigation. “The investigation has just begun,” he said.

Harris said Strickland was found by a family member who went to the home to check on him when he couldn’t be contacted.
