Columbus police charge man with rape, child molestation, sodomy

A 10-week investigation has led to the arrest of William Michael Morse on two counts each of rape, aggravated sodomy and child molestation, Columbus police said.

Morse, 47, of Columbus was taken into custody about 3:15 p.m. Thursday on outstanding warrants inside an auto repair shop on Floyd Road . He was taken to the Muscogee County Jail and held without bond for a 9 a.m. Friday hearing in Recorder’s Court.

Police started an investigation into the alleged rape of a girl under age 16 after an officer was called to Midtown Medical Center on Feb. 8. The charges stem from incidents that occurred with the girl sometime between July 29, 2015 and Dec. 25, 2016 at an apartment near Forrest Road and Wellborn Drive.
