Lafayette man facing murder charge in Opelika

Opelika police have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with Saturday’s shooting death on Toomer Street, according to a news release.

Timothy O’Neal James was arrested in connection to the incident Saturday night and has been charged with murder. He is being held in the Lee County Jail.

Opelika police received a call at 1:30 p.m. Saturday concerning a gunshot victim in the 1900 block of Toomer Street. Darlene Little, 35, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said in the news release that “exhaustive work” by investigators has determined that Little’s death was a homicide.

The case is still under investigation.
