Columbus man accused of running red light before crash that killed 2

A Columbus man was accused of driving under the influence when he was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Sixth Avenue that killed two men, according to a police report.

Authorities said the 41-year-old Columbus man was headed south on Sixth Avenue in a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo. He approached Ninth Street in the inside lane and allegedly ran a red light.

He collided with the left side of a 2007 Ford Fusion that was traveling east on Ninth Street, crossing through the intersection on a green light. Quinton Moss, 30, of Phenix City was driving the Ford with Anthony Tallis Fort, 25, of Pittsview in the front passenger seat.

Moss was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 11:23 p.m. and Fort was pronounced dead at 11:36 p.m. at Midtown Medical Center.

The other driver suffered from serious injuries, including facial and head trauma. The passenger in his vehicle broke his right hip.

Sgt. Fred Carnes said no charges have been filed as of Tuesday afternoon, but charges are pending against the 41-year-old driver. A report indicates that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and exceeded the speed limit, which was 30 miles per hour.

The collision remains under investigation.
