Police: Man caught swimming in Lake Oliver thought Bloods gang was after him

A man stranded in Lake Oliver was arrested Wednesday afternoon after officials rescued him from the water, according to Columbus Police.

Ricky Eugene Barron, 54, was charged with swimming in Lake Oliver Marina. He was booked into the Muscogee County Jail for a 2 p.m. Thursday hearing in Recorder’s Court.

An officer was called to the Lake Oliver Marina at 5501 River Road around 2:02 p.m. Wednesday to save a man who was stranded in the water.

They found Barron shouting in the middle of the lake. Rescuers with Columbus Fire & EMS rescued him.

He said someone told him that the criminal gang “Bloods” were after him. The lake is surrounded with signs that state that swimming there is prohibited.
