An armed man was taken into custody early Wednesday after he attempted to rob the Huddle House on Victory Drive, authorities said.
Anthony Brooks, who was identified as the 44-year-old gunman, faces one count each of aggravated assault, possession of firearms during a crime, attempted armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal trespassing. He was placed in the Muscogee County Jail.
Columbus police were called to the Huddle House at 1805 Victor Drive around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday to investigate a possible armed robbery.
Further investigation indicated that Brooks tried to rob the business and aimed a shotgun at a man. Officials said he also shattered the man’s driver’s side window and damaged his front fender. The fender was left lying in front of the business.
Brooks was taken into custody at 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of Victory Drive.
Further details about the incident have yet to be released.
