Man charged with attempted murder in Monday shotgun shooting

Police in Eufaula, Ala. announced Wednesday an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting on Edna Street that occurred Monday night.

Willie Edward Steele, 46, of Eufaula was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Steele is charged with attempted murder, burglary first degree and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.

He is being held in Eufaula City Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

The victim of the shooting, a 34 year old man, remains in critical condition in a Montgomery hospital. He received a close range shotgun wound to his upper right thigh.

The men are not related but the incident appears to be domestic in nature.

It was at 6:32 p.m. Monday that officers responded to Edna Street to investigate a report of a subject that had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim with a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh.

Officers and Eufaula Fire Medics administered emergency first aid and the subject was taken to Medical Center Barbour by the Eufaula Fire Department.
