Auburn police charge man with unlawful breaking and entering of motor vehicle
Police in Auburn, Ala., have charged a 25-year-old Auburn man with the unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.
According to an official report, the arrest of Jamichael E. Payne was made Tuesday.
At about 10 a.m. police responded to a suspicious incident call at an apartment complex in the 700 block of West Magnolia Avenue.
Responding officers were given the description of a suspicious vehicle seen in the parking lot along with an individual seen pulling on car door handles.
Officers arrived on the scene and quickly located the suspect vehicle and an individual, later identified as Payne; both of which matched the descriptions given to police.
Police say further investigation into the incident resulted in Payne being identified as the individual responsible for pulling on car door handles and unlawfully entering a 1999 Toyota Camry which was parked in the area.
He was taken into custody and detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest charging him with unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.
Payne was transported to the Lee County Jail where he remains in custody on a $3,000 bond.
