Man accused of trafficking in 262 Ecstasy pills valued at $6,550
A Columbus man was charged with trafficking in 262 Ecstasy pills after fleeing from police during a traffic stop on Youmans Street.
Kivonte Janoah Clark, 20, was taken into custody about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the 3600 block of Youmans Street . He also was charged with one count each of obstructing a criminal investigation , using a central lane for turning and failing to exhibit a driver’s license. He is held in the Muscogee County Jail for an 8 a.m. hearing Friday in Recorder’s Court.
Police said Clark was traveling north on Fort Benning Road in a Nissan Altima when an officer pulled behind the vehicle and smelled a strong odor of marijuana. After the driver used an emergency lane to turn onto Youmans Street, police turned on flashing lights to stop the car but it failed to stop.
The vehicle stopped in the yard of a driveway and the driver fled on foot. The suspect was later found inside a house and taken into custody. During a search of the Nissan, police found pills on the rear seat of the vehicle in an unmarked bottle.
Police said the pills weighed about 2 ounces and had a street value of $6,550.
