A Jacksonville, Fla., man was charged early Saturday after a throat slashing incident at Scruffy Murphy’s in downtown Columbus, police said.
Auston Ezekiel Gartner, 33, was taken into custody at 11th Street and Broadway after a 2:45 a.m. incident inside the pub at 1037 Broadway. He was charged with one count of aggravated assault and held in the Muscogee County Jail for a hearing in Recorder’s Court.
Police said Gartner was into some type of verbal dispute with a man inside the pub. He is accused of pulling a silver, butterfly-type knife and slashing at the victim’s throat.
The victim had a visible cut to the front of his throat but didn’t require treatment by emergency medical personnel, police said in a report. The victim told police that he didn’t know or remember what happened at the pub.
After the incident, the suspect left the bar. Gartner was with a woman but she wasn’t present at the time of the dispute inside the bar, police said.
