Man stole more than $1,200 worth of items from several unlocked vehicles, police say
A man was arrested Sunday morning in connection with a rash of car burglaries on West Magnolia Avenue, according to a a news release from Auburn police.
Jarmarcus D. Phillips, 23, of Tuskegee, Alabama, faces one count each of unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle and third-degree theft of property. He was booked into the Lee County Jail, where he is eligible for a $4,500 bond.
Authorities responded to the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue around 6 a.m. Sunday to investigate a suspicious person.
Officials allegedly found Phillips on the scene with more than $1,200 worth of stolen items, including a backpack, wallet, textbooks and electronics. He was then taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.
Officials said further investigation indicated that Phillips stole the items from several unlocked vehicles, including a 2012 BMW 328I parked in the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue.
