A shooting Wednesday morning in the parking lot of Home Depot on Sowega Drive has been ruled an accident, police confirmed.

Columbus police Maj. J.D. Hawk said a woman was loading materials into a dark colored Chevrolet pickup truck when a rifle accidentally discharged.

The woman was struck by the bullet and transported to Midtown Medical Center for treatment, Hawk said. Police have not disclosed the nature of the injuries.

The woman was the only person involved in the incident, Hawk said.

At 9:30 a.m. Wednesday there were about a dozen officers on the scene. It included detectives, crime scene investigators and patrol officers.

The store was open for business and customers were coming in and out.
