One charged, one sought in Nov. 19 shooting death of Javion Shorter on Hunter Road
Columbus police have arrested a 19-year-old man in the Nov. 19 death of Javion Shorter who was shot in the 5600 block of Hunter Road at Ballard Way Apartments.
Daijon Dawayne Williams, who was already held in the Muscogee County Jail on a possession of Ecstasy charge with intent to distribute, faced the additional murder charge after police delivered documents to jail booking officials. His initial appearance in Recorder’s Court is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, and a formal hearing will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday.
A police investigation also has led to a murder warrant issued for Nashira Kendra Miller, 19. She is known to frequent Eagle Trace Apartments at 2001 Torch Hill Road in Columbus.
Police were called to the apartments complex at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 to check on a person shot. Shorter was found in the stairwell of the building suffering from multiple gunshots and transported to the emergency room at Midtown Medical Center. He died of injuries two days later, police said.
Jail records show that Williams has been in the jail since Dec. 1. He was taken into custody after homicide detectives conducted a search at Eagle Trace Apartments. Police found drugs valued at $250 in his bedroom. At that time, Williams told police that he had been in possession of a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup, but he denied stealing the vehicle.
Miller is described as black, about 5-foot-9 and 120 pounds. Anyone with information on Miller’s location should call 911. Information on the murder investigation should be directed to Cpl. Sherman Hayes of the Homicide Unit at 706-225-4268 or shayes@columbusga.org.
