Two people are now jailed in the Nov. 19 death of Javion Shorter after a woman surrendered to Columbus police Friday afternoon.

Nashira Kendra Miller, 19, of Columbus turned herself in at the Public Safety Center at 4:45 p.m., the same day Daijon Dawayne Williams was charged with murder in the death of Shorter. She is held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail for a 9 a.m. Thursday hearing in Recorder’s Court.

Police said an investigation led to the murder warrant for Miller but didn’t indicate how she is linked to the slaying.

Shorter was shot in the 5600 block of Hunter Road at Ballard Way Apartments. Police were called to the apartments complex at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 to check on a person shot. Suffering from multiple gunshots, Shorter was found in the stairwell of the building and transported to the emergency room at Midtown Medical Center. He died of injuries two days later, police said.

Williams, who was already held in the Muscogee County Jail on a possession of Ecstasy charge with intent to distribute, faced the additional murder charge after police delivered documents to jail booking officials. His initial appearance in Recorder’s Court was Saturday, and a formal hearing will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Jail records show that Williams has been in the jail since Dec. 1. He was taken into custody after homicide detectives conducted a search at Eagle Trace Apartments. Police found drugs valued at $250 in his bedroom. At that time, Williams told police that he had been in possession of a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup, but he denied stealing the vehicle.

Anyone with additional information on the murder investigation should contact Cpl. Sherman Hayes of the Homicide Unit at 706-225-4268 or shayes@columbusga.org
