The Columbus Police Department Special Victims Unit which handles sex crimes has won the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Affiliate of the Year Award for 2017.

Sergeant John Bailey and Corporal Amanda Hogan received certficates of excellence for their service with the Operation Guardian Angel project conducted in November.

Twenty-one people were arrested.

“We are extremely proud of our Special Victims Unit and most importantly for the dedicated hard work hours that all of the detectives put in to protect our children,” said Lt. J. Dent-Fitzpatrick in a news release.
