One dead, one charged in West Point shooting

A West Point, Ga., man is charged with murder in the Monday shooting death of 65-year-old William Carter Lee, police said.

Freddy Lee Sutton, 63, also faces one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the midnight shooting of Lee. Sutton was taken into custody about 6:03 a.m. at the Town and Country hotel in LaGrange.

The West Point Police Department and Lanett Emergency Medical Services were called to an apartment at 1301 Avenue K to check on a person who may have been shot. At the scene, officers found Lee sitting on a couch where he suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was unresponsive.

Lee was pronounced dead by the coroner at 1:25 a.m. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted in processing the crime scene.
