Columbus man charged with trafficking nearly $16,000 worth of meth
A 34-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday after he was allegedly found with nearly $16,000 worth of meth during a traffic stop on Veterans Parkway, according to testimony Wednesday in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
Clint Walker, 34, pleaded not guilty to one count each of trafficking meth, possession of heroin, possession of amphetamine and possession of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during a crime, possession of marijuana 1,000 feet within a housing project, driving while license suspended or revoked, failure to wear a seatbelt, no working tag light and switching registration plates.
He was ordered held in the Muscogee County Jail after being denied bond on the trafficking charge. Judge Julius Hunter bound the case over Superior Court.
Columbus Police Officer Mike Aguilar said he was patrolling the area of Veterans Parkway and River Road around 2:59 a.m. Tuesday when he noticed Walker driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche without a seatbelt.
He checked with the Georgia Crime Information Center and noticed that the tag was registered to another vehicle. The officer said he conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and Walker appeared to be upset about being pulled over.
Aguilar said he also started to breathe heavily and sweat, prompting him to ask the defendant if he could search him. He said the man gave his consent and mentioned having at least $1,000 in his pocket. The officer said he searched his pocket and found 3.4 grams of marijuana (street value of $34).
In the vehicle, Aguilar said he located 158.7 grams of meth (street value of $15,000), .5 grams of heroin (street value of $50), .5 grams of cocaine (street value of $50), two Amphetamine pills (street value of $50), one 9 mm pistol, $2,033 in cash, two pipes, one digital scale and multiple plastic baggies.
