Columbus police seized $6,400 worth of liquid methamphetamine from a Walmart shopper early Thursday at the Gateway Road store.

William C. Burch, 35, of Columbus was charged with trafficking in meth, possession of meth, felony theft by shoplifting and possession of drug-related objects after his 5:24 a.m. arrest at 6475 Gateway Road. He is held in the Muscogee County Jail for an 8 a.m. Friday hearing in Recorder’s Court.

Four patrol officers were called to the store to investigate a shoplifting in progress. At the scene, police said Burch was accused of taking a Casio watch valued at $35. The suspect was in possession of 1/2 gram of crystal meth valued at $50 and more than 2 ounces of clear liquid meth valued at $6,400.

Officers also found a glass smoking pipe, syringes and other objects on the suspect. The clear liquid tested positive twice for meth, police said.
