Two robbery suspects charged after police chase in Phenix City
Two robbery suspects were charged Wednesday night after allegedly leading Phenix City police into a chase near Highway 165, authorities said.
Trystan Greenlee, 20, and Tony Prather, 33, were taken into custody after crashing the vehicle they were traveling in a the time. They were placed into the Russell County Jail.
Officers were called to the Castle Fuel Gas Station at the intersection of Highway 165 and Highway 431 around 11:28 p.m. Thursday to investigate an armed robbery.
"As the suspects were fleeing the scene, a Russell County sheriff's deputy who was in the vicinity saw the offenders running from the store, jumped into a vehicle and took off at a high rate of speed," Lt. Angela Leslie said.
The deputy heard dispatch issue an alert about the suspects over the radio and pursued them, according to a news release.
Leslie said the chase ended with the suspects wrecking, but no one was injured. A handgun that was reported stolen in Clayton County was found at the scene along with cash.
