A drug search in Smiths Station has led to the seizure of $10,000 in cash, a quantity of meth and more than a pound of the drug called “lean,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Three suspects were arrested Thursday during multiple searches at Lee Roads 242 and 594 in Lee County. They were identified as Derrick Walker of Smiths Station, Matthew Hall of Beauregard and Amanda Bunn of Cusseta. Walker and Hall also may face firearms violations.
Sheriff Jay Jones said the arrests were the result of an on-going investigation into criminal activity involving illegal drugs and firearms. “The arrests of individuals suspected of committing crimes and the seizures of controlled substances and firearms are the direct result of the recently activated multi-agency Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force,” he said . “Joint efforts by multiple agencies in the Task Force bring more resources to the mission of detecting and removing those who pose threats to our communities.”
The searches were executed by the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force for Region D. Agents seized $10,000 in cash, 5 ounces of methamphetamine, 20 ounces of “lean,” a combination of hydrocodone cough syrup and Sprite, 15 grams of high-grade marijuana, 4 total grams of cocaine-base. Agents also seized nine firearms and two vehicles, a Lexus SUV and Dodge Charger.
Although no names have been released, authorities said more arrests are possible in connection with the investigation on drug distribution and trafficking charges. Arrests are pending as active arrest warrants have been turned over to the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
