Former NFL defensive back Donald Andrew Bessillieu is held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail for a violation of probation charge, officials said.

Bessillieu, 61, of Columbus was in Recorder’s Court on Wednesday to face two charges after he was stopped March 30 by a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol at Macon Road and Interstate 185. He was charged with speeding and possession of cocaine.

This is not the first time Bessillieu has faced charges. In 2013, he was charged with possession of a drug related object with residue in it.

Bessillieu, who attended Kendrick High School, played football at Georgia Tech and was taken in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He played six years as a safety for the Miami Dolphins from 1979-1981, St. Louis Cardinals in 1982 and Los Angeles Raiders in 1983 and 1985. He also played in the United States Football League with the Jacksonville Bulls and Memphis Showboats from 1984-1985.
