MCSD bus driver cited after two students injured in crash

A bus driver for the Muscogee County School District faces a stop sign violation after her bus went through an intersection on Forest Avenue Thursday at 17th Street and injured a student in a collision with an SUV, Columbus police said.

A 10-year-old girl was taken to Piedmont Medical Center after the 2:30 p.m. collision.

Police said Gladys Jones, 63, was traveling north on Forest Avenue in a school bus when she stopped before driving through the intersection. A Kia Sorrento driving west on 17th Street struck the center of the bus.

The Kia driver was transported to the hospital for treatment. She told police that she was headed toward Lakebottom Park before the crash.

The bus and the SUV were removed from the scene.

Jones was issued a stop sign violation in connection with the crash. A court date is set for 9 a.m. May 20 in Recorder’s Court.
