An unclean child found wandering 17th Street Tuesday has led to charges against the father, Columbus police said.

John Robinson, 55, faces two counts of reckless conduct after police found two girls, ages 5 and 8, without supervision about 4:49 p.m. Tuesday. He is held in the Muscogee County Jail for a 2 p.m. Thursday hearing in Recorder’s Court.

Police were called after a woman saw a tiny girl alone while she was walking on 17th Street near 15th Avenue. The child refused to get out of the roadway before a second, older girl appeared in the 1400 block of 17th Street.

The younger child was in the care of the older girl while the father was in the bathroom, police said. Robinson, the girls’ father, was arrested at the scene.

The Department of Family and Children Services was contacted about the living conditions of the girls.
