A Columbus father and son were gunned down in the driveway in a double homicide outside 6 Stuart Drive, authorities said Tuesday.
Joseph Banks, 41, and his 3-year-old son Ja’Ceiden Roberts were pronounced dead at 9:22 a.m. in the yard near the house, said Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley. Both will be transported to the crime lab in Decatur for autopsies on Wednesday.
Police Maj. J.D. Hawk, head of the Investigative Services Bureau, said the call came in at 8:38 a.m. on a person down. Detectives were on the scene most of the morning looking for clues in connection with the shooting.

A passer-by found the victims in the driveway of the vacant house and called police. The father lived at the Colony Inn hotel on Victory Drive and the boy lived with his mother on Reese Road, authorities said.
In a report, police said the victims died from gunshot wounds but didn’t identify the type of weapon. Police sealed off the area with bright yellow tape while detectives conducted an investigation.
An investigation has determined that the father and son were last seen getting into a white 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck that drove away from a motel on Victory Drive at 1 a.m. Tuesday. They were with an unidentified male, described as black, over 6 feet tall and weighing about 160 to 200 pounds. The man was dressed in dark pants and a jacket.
Neither the pickup nor the man have been located. The truck is listed as stolen in Georgia . It has a short bed with an extended cab with the front bumper dented with a Georgia tag PXY 8563.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said the deaths push the total homicides to 32 for 2018. The deaths came just six days after Tommy Jones III, 19, was fatally shot in the parking lot Nov. 21 at the Walgreens, 2510 Wynnton Road. Police are still looking for the gunman in the fatal shooting.
