Coroner names victim of fatal Christmas shooting. Phenix City police search for suspect.
Police are searching for a man in connection with the Christmas night fatal shooting at a Phenix City bar.
The victim is Sidney Jones, 36, of Smiths Station, Russell County coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. told the Ledger-Enquirer. His body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy, he said.
“This is our 20th homicide in Russell County this year,” Sumbry said.
Delewis Antwan Collier, 37, is wanted for questioning in reference to this case, Phenix City Police Department Capt. Darryl Williams said Thursday in a news release.
“Collier will possibly be driving a white Mercedes Benz, with a possible tag number of 57CZ413 Al/2019,” Williams said.
According to the news release, police responded at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday to a shooting at AJ’s Bar and Grill, 1702 U.S. Hwy. 280/431.
Officers found a male, later identified as Jones, with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at Piedmont Columbus Regional’s midtown hospital.
