Columbus police charge six suspects with murder in fatal Upatoi home invasion
Police have charged six suspects in Saturday’s fatal shooting and home invasion in the Upatoi area of east Columbus.
Killed in the early morning attack was Cross Henderson, 21, who was shot in the lower back at a residence in the 8000 block of Upatoi Ridge, authorities said.
Henderson arrived at Piedmont Columbus Regional at 1:31 a.m. and was pronounced dead there at 2:07 a.m., said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
Bryan said Henderson was in the residence with his brother and a friend when the intruders broke into the home.
Booked Wednesday into the Muscogee County Jail on murder charges were Anthony Foster, 23; Trevonuis Tyriq Williams, 22; Ceuion Marque English, 23; Laqwane Demarcus Kindred, 26; and Mercedes Ann Marie Kraft, 17.
An unnamed juvenile, expected to be charged as an adult, is being held in a youth detention center.
Police said the department’s SWAT team along with sheriff’s officers and Columbus firefighters captured the suspects while executing search and arrest warrants.
Investigators expect more charges to be filed soon, according to a news release Wednesday evening.
Their preliminary hearings in Recorder’s Court are scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday but will be rescheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, according to the release.
Funeral set
Cross’ funeral is set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Cascade Hills Church, according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory.
A 2016 graduate of Columbus’ Northside High School, Cross was born in Phenix City on June 20, 1998, to Billy Henderson and Autumn Dewitte Tillery, according to his Ledger-Enquirer obituary.
A member of Cascade Hills Church, he was in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and worked in fire-protection services, according to the obit that described him as “a loving, caring and positive influence on everyone who knew him,” adding, “This tragedy has affected everyone deeply.”
