Columbus-area law enforcement seizes over $1M worth of drugs and arrests 2, sheriff says
Two men are in custody after the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office seized more than $1 million of illegal narcotics, multiple weapons and $31,000 in U.S. currency, Sheriff Donna Tompkins announced Thursday.
The seizure and arrests were carried out Tuesday following a 6-month long investigation initiated by MCSO and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. It also included the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Arrested were Brandon Jones, 35, and Santiago Rosales, 41.
Jones is charged with trafficking in heroin and two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine. Rosales is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, and use of a communication facility in commission of a felony involving a controlled substance.
Both are currently housed in the Harris County Jail, Tompkins said.
“These were drugs that were headed to the streets of Muscogee County, Harris County and Lee County, Alabama,“ Tompkins said. ”We’re just glad that we were able to intercept them and get them off the streets.”
The investigation resulted in the seizure of:
- Approximately 19 pounds of methamphetamine, estimated value of $880,000.
- 495.5 grams of heroin, estimated value of $198,160.
- 30.7 grams of marijuana, estimated value of $307.
- More than $31,000 in U.S. currency.
- Several semi-automatic rifles and handguns.
Tompkins was joined at the press conference by Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones and Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley.
