She sent a Valentine’s card to jailed Bibb County man. There was meth inside, cops say

Nothing says happy Valentine’s like be (methampheta)mine.

Or so it seems from what Bibb County sheriff’s officials said Monday about a V-Day card that the apparent female love interest of an inmate at the Macon lockup sent the prisoner early last week.

The card, addressed to inmate Billy Joe Deason II, of Lizella, and mailed by Lori D. Wilkes, of Byron, was said to contain “a small amount” of meth, officials noted in a Monday news release.

Sheriff’s deputies “intercepted” the card and found the suspected drugs tucked inside, the officials said, after cops “were tipped off” that Wilkes, 41, had been talking to the incarcerated Deason, 37, by phone about mailing him drugs.

The card, said to have a picture of a heart and some penguins printed on front, began: “You and Me; Little Talks; Silly Jokes; Hugs and Kisses; Time Together.”

Inside, its printed greeting read, “I Love Us! Happy Valentine’s Day.”

A handwritten message added, “Miss you.”

The pair are now spending time together — in separate wings at the Oglethorpe Street slammer.

Jailers found the card in the mail last Tuesday and Wilkes, who is accused of meth possession and drug-transaction charges, was arrested on Wednesday. She was still being held in the Macon jail without bond on Monday.

Deason, who has been in the jail since mid-November on an alleged probation violation, now faces additional drug charges related to the allegedly mailed meth.
