Coroner identifies man killed in fatal shooting near downtown Columbus

One man is dead after a Tuesday morning shooting near the edge of downtown Columbus.

Ronnie Jackson, Jr., 29, was pronounced dead by Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan at 10:26 a.m. at Piedmont Columbus Regional. Jackson sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred on Fifth Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The area was blocked off with yellow police tape as investigators took photos and placed numbered markers around the scene.

Jackson’s death marks the eighth homicide in the city this year.
