Police seek tips on dying Columbus man who crashed car into house after shooting

Columbus police need the public’s help solving a homicide from over the weekend when a mortally wounded man crashed into a home on Cusseta Road, apparently while fleeing whoever shot him.

Quincy Lasason Atkins, who just marked his 20th birthday on Friday, was found to have been shot multiple times after he crashed a Dodge Charger into a house in the 2800 block of Cusseta Road around 5 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Atkins was rushed to the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m., said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

The crash caused heavy damage to a fence, but only minor damage to the house, investigators said.

“It was determined the victim was shot in or near his car at 2900 Cusseta Road and crashed after attempting to flee,” detectives wrote in a news release. “There is currently no suspect information and no arrests have been made.”

Anyone with information on Atkins’ shooting is asked to contact Detective Jason Carden at 706-225-4395 or jcarden@columbusga.org.

Atkins’ death marked Columbus’ 14th homicide so far this year.
