Columbus police make arrest in fatal shooting of 60-year-old man near Cusseta Road

A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in an April shooting that left a 60-year-old man dead on Cusseta Road in Columbus.

Frankie Walker, 32, was arrested Thursday, according to a release from the Columbus Police Department.

The incident took place on April 26 in the area of Cusseta Road and 27th Avenue. Around 4:35 p.m. that day, a 911 call led police to a car that hit a telephone pole, authorities said.

Richard Watson, 60, was found inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 p.m., according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

According to police, the case is still under investigation.

Watson’s death marked Columbus’ 15th homicide in 2020.

Walker’s Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 16, but will be rescheduled for 9 a.m. May 20.
