14 year old arrested on murder charge in recent fatal shooting near Wilson Apartments

Columbus police have arrested a 14-year-old male teen and charged him as an adult with murder in the fatal shooting of a 16 year old earlier this month near Wilson Apartments.

According to a release from the Columbus Police Department, the 14 year old turned himself in at the Public Safety Center Wednesday. They did not provide his name.

He is expected to appear in Recorder’s Court at 8 a.m. Friday.

Under Georgia Senate Bill 440, the teen will face the murder charge as an adult.

16-year-old Nigel Walker is also charged as an adult with murder in the case. He made his first appearance in Recorder’s Court Wednesday morning where an officer testified that an attempted robbery possibly led to the fatal shooting.

Lamarion Wright, 16, was found with a gunshot wound near the intersection of Belmont Street and Sixth Avenue on May 22.

According to testimony from Sgt. Donna Baker, Walker, Wright and an unnamed teen were walking together when the two boys pulled guns on Walker and demanded his belongings. When Wright refused, Walker reportedly shot him before fleeing the scene with the unnamed teen.

It’s unclear at this time if the 14 year old arrested Wednesday and the unnamed teen are the same person.

Anyone with information related to the case is asking to contact Baker at 706-225-4296 or dbaker@columbusga.org.
