Alabama man found shot dead in Columbus identified through fingerprints, coroner says

Investigators had to use fingerprints to identify a 22-year-old Montgomery, Alabama, man who was found fatally shot in midtown Columbus.

Police called at 7:19 a.m. Monday to 17th Avenue at Nina Street found Travis Gemaine Henry dead from a gunshot wound, authorities said. Henry was pronounced dead at 7:42 a.m., said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Investigators determined his body had been dumped in the street.

The victim had no identification on him, so detectives initially did not know who he was. His fingerprints were submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which identified Henry through a database, Bryan said.

The area where Henry was found is north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between 10th Avenue and Brown Avenue, just south of the Overlook neighborhood.

Anyone with information on Henry’s death may contact homicide investigators at 706-653-3400.
