Columbus police charge father, teen son with murder in death of woman stabbed repeatedly

A Columbus father and his 14-year-old son now are charged with murder in the death of a mother of two found dead in a lawn chair Saturday with multiple stab wounds, authorities said.

Joshuah Fredette, 44, and his teen son police have not identified are jailed in the fatal stabbing of Emily McDaniel, 37, found dead around 10 p.m. Saturday at her 1120 Rosewood Drive home, investigators said.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, who pronounced McDaniel dead at 10:25 p.m., said she was sitting in a lawn chair in her carport with more than a dozen stab wounds to her abdomen as well as other injuries that may include gunshots.

Her body has been sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy that should detail the extent of her injuries, he said.

He said McDaniel, the mother of two young children, had been in a relationship with Fredette.

The teen was charged Saturday with murder, using a weapon to commit a crime and auto theft.

Fredette initially was charged with tampering with evidence and violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. Detectives announced Monday afternoon that they also have charged him with murder in the case.

Anyone with more information on McDaniel’s death is asked to contact police Sgt. Dexter Wysinger at 706-225-4469 or dwysinger@columbusga.org.

Fredette and his son are to have a preliminary in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
